Thursday 8:30 a.m. UPDATE:  Work continues on Elimsport Road. The closure and detour are now expected to be lifted by tomorrow (Friday) afternoon by around 4 p.m.

Wed. @ 8:30 a.m. UPDATE: Route 2001 (Elimsport Road) is closed to all through traffic two miles west of Route 15 as work to raise the roadway at the stone arch bridge begins. Motorists are advised to use the detour of Routes 554, 44 and 15.

Montoursville - Route 2001 (Elimsport Road) in Brady Township, Lycoming County is once again flooded about two miles west of Route 15 following yesterday's heavy rainfall.

Once the floodwaters recede to a lower level, PennDOT plans to implement an interim fix designed to raise the roadway to a level that should reduce the frequency of closures due to future flooding.

Barring further heavy rains in the short term, PennDOT anticipates it will be able to begin the work within two weeks. A PennDOT maintenance crew will raise the roadway at the east approach to the stone arch bridge by approximately three feet. The crew will place stone and top it with a layer of blacktop millings. Weather permitting; the work may take three to four days to complete. There will likely be an extended period during the operation that all traffic is blocked from using the road.

Once the interim measure is completed, the roadway will be reopened to traffic.

PennDOT is also working with county transportation planners and the local municipalities to develop a viable long-term solution to the flood-related closures through this area known as The Sinks. It's an area with extensive underground limestone caverns that fill up and overflow during extensive periods of heavy rainfall such as those experienced this year.
