The Jolly One and his wife--Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, respectively-- intend to visit the west end of Williamsport next week.

Williamsport’s west end neighborhoods are going all out to welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus. Newberry and Jaysburg residents and friends, young and old, are expected to turn out to greet the couple and witness the second annual lighting of the tree.

Mayor Gabriel Campana will welcome the couple and choose two children from the audience to help him lead the countdown to flip the switch that will light up the 15 foot spruce tree.

The event, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 1, 6:30 p.m., regardless of weather conditions, takes place at the Brodart Co., 500 Arch Street, at the corner of W. Third and Arch Streets.

Following the ceremony, youngsters can visit with Santa and everyone is invited to enjoy hot chocolate, coffee and cookies, compliments of Brodart’s and Heller’s Harvest Moon Restaurant.

This celebration is sponsored by the City of Williamsport and the Newberry Community Partnership, with special thanks to the Newberry Independent Club, Helminiak’s Greenhouse and Nursery, and Lamar Advertising.
