Energy Management Planning is Paying Off

October 20, 2011

Facilities managers across Central Pennsylvania are finding energy management planning pays off in terms of costs savings and reduced energy use.

Officials from two public sector organizations will headline the SEDA-COG Energy Resource Center’s next breakfast seminar and provide details of their experiences.

Energy Management Planning Pays Off will be held Friday morning, November 4, 7:30 am to 9:30 am at the Country Cupboard Restaurant, on Route 15, north of Lewisburg.  Registration is $25 and includes breakfast.

James Meyer, Director, Centre County Airport Authority and Matt Dixon, Regional Services Manager, the McClure Company, will present information on energy reduction activities undertaken by the Authority at the University Park Airport, outside State College.

The energy management plan implemented at the Airport’s commercial terminal includes air-sealing, HVAC upgrades, a deep well geothermal heating system, and lighting retrofits.  The project’s payback, based on cumulative and guaranteed energy savings is over $1.3 million.

Among energy saving measures installed by the Borough of Millheim are a geothermal system and variable frequency drives attached to motors on Borough-owned equipment. Sharon Heckman, Borough Secretary, and Jason Grottini, Energy Projects Manager, Envinity Inc., will discuss the projects’ sequencing, capital costs, payback, and savings as part of the Borough’s $237,500 multi-year energy management plan.

Individuals may register for Energy Management Planning Pays Off and pay online at www.seda-cog.org/energy.  (See “Upcoming Events”). The seminar flyer can be found online as well. Those with questions may contact Frank Migneco, Senior Energy Specialist, SEDA-COG Energy Resource Center, tel. 570- 524-4491, e-mail fmigneco@seda-cog.org.
