Flood-Recovery Work on Wallis Run Road Detailed

October 19, 2011

Montoursville - The first of two emergency flood-recovery contracts for repairs to sections of Route 1003 (Wallis Run Road) in Lycoming County is scheduled to start tomorrow.

This first contract, for $713,579, will address flood-damaged sites at four locations, starting with the roadway washout just south of the intersection with Butternut Grove Road in Gamble Township. Prime contractor Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. will begin debris removal at the bridge at that intersection tomorrow, and then on Monday begin roadway restoration work.

Once that roadway section is repaired, Wallis Run Road can be reopened from that intersection for local traffic only to the intersection with Yeagle Road. That is anticipated around mid-November.

The additional three sites under this contract, north of Butternut Grove Road, will be addressed following the roadway restoration just south of Butternut Grove Road.

Meanwhile, a second emergency flood-recovery contract for the larger damaged section of Wallis Run Road, just off Route 973 at Slabtown, is scheduled for bid openings tomorrow. Those repairs will take several months to complete.
