The Uptown Music Collective, the area’s premier nonprofit school of music, will again offer their annual series of Summer Music Camps this summer. These camps are week-long music workshops in which Uptown Music Collective faculty members instruct full-day lessons on specific skills, styles or instruments.  The Uptown Music Collective has offered this type of summer instruction since it was founded in 2000.

Camps to be offered this year include Beginning Guitar (June 20-24), Intermediate Guitar (July 11-15), Advanced Guitar (July 11-15), Vocal Performance (July 11-15), Drum Technique (July 25-29), Blues (August 1-5), Bass Guitar (July 25-29), Jazz (August 1-5), “I Wanna Rock” (June 20-24), Guitar for Kids (July 25-29).  These week long workshops run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are open to all interested students. Students do not have to be enrolled in lessons or classes to take part in these high impact workshops.  All camps will be held at the Uptown Music Collective facility at 848 West Fourth Street in Williamsport. Camps will be $125 for a full week on instruction.

Established in April of 2000, the Uptown Music Collective has developed a reputation as the premier source of music education in the area, offering private lessons at all levels on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and vocals, as well as classes and workshops in music theory, songwriting, and styles such as Blues, Jazz, Classical and Rock. The primary age range of the Collective is 10–18 yrs old, but is open to all ages and levels.

Along with private lessons, the UMC offers a myriad of programs, including its flagship Performance Program. This program educates students about the ins and outs of major and minor performances, including direction, production, preparation and technical aspects of the performances. The program also brings outstanding student run performances to the area, including the most recent, “The Unforgettable Fire: A Tribute to U2 and Irish Rock.”

Enrollment in the popular Summer Music Camp series is separate from general enrollment in the Uptown Music Collective’s summer semester, which includes lessons, classes, and workshops.  Students interested in enrolling in the summer semester can find more information by visiting the Collective website (www.uptownmusic.org).

This year’s summer semester will culminate with the Uptown Music Collective’s Summer Music Fest at the Brandon Park Band shell in Williamsport on Sunday, August 7. More information can be found on the Uptown Music Collective website (www.uptownmusic.org) or by contacting Jared Mondell at (570) 329-0888 or jared@uptownmusic.org.
