Montour Preserve Announces Program Changes and Creative Opportunities

April 26, 2011

Young Explorers is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
YOUNG EXPLORERS: TOWERING TREES (Ages 3–5) Friday, April 29, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Advance registration required; call 570-437-3131 Environmental Education Center
Presented by: Jon D. Beam, Senior Naturalist
Let’s learn about trees. They tower above us and have roots below our feet. They provide us with shade and sometimes food. They do much more than that. We’ll talk about what trees give us and why we should appreciate them more. We’ll start with a story about trees and then venture outdoors among the trees for a closer look.

Owl Be Back has been rescheduled for May 21
OWL BE BACK: RESTORING BARN OWLS TO CENTRAL PA
Saturday, May 21, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Environmental Education Center
Presented by: Wayne Laubscher, Naturalist
Ghosts of the night, barn owls fly on silent wings through the dark. Known as the “farmer’s friend” because of their ability to catch and eat rodents, these owls have all but disappeared from some regions of Pennsylvania. Join us to learn about barn owls in our area, how they make their living and what is being done to give them a helping hand.

Creative Opportunity
David Hughes, the artist who conducted the Nature in Watercolors workshop (and did a wonderful job) has made an offer to give a series of art lessons here at Montour Preserve in the future is enough people are interested. He could do sketching, watercolors, acrylics or oils. There would be a slight fee for each lesson and you could come to as many or few as fits your schedule. Please contact Jon Beam if interested and which medium (or media) you would prefer.
