Joel G. Garrison Children's Day celebrated by free day of swimming and refreshments at Memorial Park Pool
WILLIAMSPORT -- The Joel G. Garrison Children’s Day will be celebrated on Friday, August 13, 2010, at the Memorial Park Pool offering free admission and concession stand refreshments to the public.
The Joel G. Garrison Children’s Day is supported by the Joel G. Garrison Trust Fund at the Williamsport Lycoming Community Foundation. This day is made possible by the foresight, generosity and compassion of Mr. Garrison, and his desire to ensure that children in the City of Williamsport would have a day in which they could enjoy entertainment and refreshments.
Mr. Garrison is remembered as a kind man, who took joy out of helping children in need. A veteran of the Spanish-American War, Joel Garrison chose to designate August 13, a date that corresponds with the end of the war in 1898, as the day in which children would benefit from his gift to the community.
This offer is available to the general public from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Memorial Park Pool, West Fourth Street.
The Williamsport Lycoming Community Foundation, one of the oldest community foundations in the United States, has been providing funding for community needs for nearly 100 years.
