LEWISBURG- Community Health Education at Evangelical Community Hospital has planned a Highmark Blue Shield four-week prevention and awareness class on diabetes on Mondays, August 2-23 from 6-7 p.m. at the Community Health Education Center.

Diabetes is a serious condition that can do as little as make you excessively thirsty or can be as serious as making you go blind. According to the American Diabetes Association, 23.6 million Americans have diabetes; nearly one in four do not know they even have it.

There will be a different topic at each session. The topics are: “Raising Awareness”, “Eating Better”, "Exercising and Managing Stress", and "Living a Healthy Lifestyle". The program is designed to help participants establish healthy habits and help prevent or manage diabetes, and will be led by registered dietitian Christina O’Rourke.

Class size is limited and registration is required. The fee for this class is $65 and free for Highmark participants with a current insurance card. To register, please contact Community Health Education at 570-522-2693.
