HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives today unanimously passed state Rep. Rick Mirabito's H.B. 2305 that would rename the Market Street Bridge that connects Williamsport and South Williamsport through Loyalsock Township as the Carl E. Stotz Little League Bridge.

"By renaming this prominent bridge the Carl E. Stotz Little League Bridge, we create a lasting tribute to a hometown hero who created a game that gives summers of fun and lifelong memories to children around the world," Mirabito said.

Stotz came up with the idea of Little League Baseball in 1938 while playing a game of catch with his two young nephews. Since then, it has become the world's largest organized youth sports program with nearly 200,000 teams in the United States and more than 80 countries.

Each year, Williamsport hosts the Little League World Series.

Stotz, a Williamsport native, served as a local tax collector. He died in 1992 at the age of 82.

House Bill 2305 now moves to the state Senate for consideration.
