Camp Koala Holds June Bereavement Camp

April 19, 2010

DILLSBURG -- Camp Koala will hold its annual no-cost bereavement camp from June 11-13, 2010 for children ages 7-12 who have experienced a death of a parent or sibling. Our mission is to provide grieving children with the resources to help them cope with their grief and to allow them to spend time with other children who are experiencing a similar situation.

Each camper is paired with an adult Big Buddy, and the camp is staffed with licensed therapists, an RN, and many volunteers.  Campers will participate in activities such as arts&crafts, sports recreation, pet therapy, dance&music therapy, and traditional camp activities like marshmallow roasting, campfires, hiking, guitar sing-a-longs, boating and fishing.

The non-profit camp was founded by Lisa Streett-Liebetrau of Carlisle, in memory of her sisters, Michelle (12)and Heather Streett (9), who were killed in a car accident in Dillsburg, in May of 1989. The Streett family is originally from Mifflinburg.
