Driver Involved in Fatal Pedestrian Hit and Run Accident Surrenders to Police

WILLIAMSPORT -- State Police in Montoursville reported that the driver involved in the fatal pedestrian hit and run March 1, 2017 on Route 220 in Woodward Township has turned himself in. Police declined to name the 31-year-old male driver from Cogan Station at this time, saying that the identity will be released at a future date after charges are filed. The driver had a 32-year-old female passenger from Selinsgrove, who also was not identified.

The accident occurred at 11:30 p.m., as the driver, who was operating a 2001 blue Saturn SC1 CP, was attempting to merge onto Route 220 southbound from West Fourth Street. The driver struck Dennis Lee Burley, 54, of Muncy, as he was crossing the southbound lanes of Route 220 and entered into the path of the car. Burley struck multiple times off the car before coming to final rest on the roadway. The car traveled up the road, stopped for a moment, and then continued on.

Lycoming County Coroner Charles Kiessling pronounced Burley dead.

The driver turned himself in at the Selinsgrove State Police Barracks, where he and the passenger were interviewed. The vehicle was located in Montour County and was impounded.

PSP Montoursville are still obtaining and pursuing investigative leads. Once those leads are finalized, the driver will be receiving charges through the office of District Magistrate Jerry C. Lepley in Jersey Shore.
