Statement on Letter Sent to the PA Game Commission

March 18, 2014

Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-25) and Representative Martin Causer (R-67) have issued the following statement regarding the attached letter sent to the PA Game Commission:

Recent actions by the Pennsylvania Game Commission have been extremely troublesome and we have serious concerns with the direction that the Commission is headed.  Earlier this month we were greatly disappointed to learn the PA Game Commission Board of Commissioners approved what amounts to a $220,000 severance payment to the former Executive Director.

After reviewing this issue with Governor Corbett and legislative colleagues in the Senate and House of Representatives we have sent a joint letter to the Board of Commissioners recommending their course of action.  The public needs to have confidence in the Commission and know that they are handling matters in a responsible manner.

The Game Commission Board of Commissioners has promptly responded to our letter and agreed to implement our recommendations.  The public’s trust must be restored and we are ready and willing to work with the Board of Commissioners to ensure the best interests of our sportsmen and sportswomen are served.
