Statement on Clear Creek Bridge Re-Opening

March 14, 2014

Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-25) issued the following statement regarding the re-opening of the Clear Creek Bridge in Jefferson County:

I am very pleased that the Clear Creek Bridge in Jefferson County has been re-opened by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).  The bridge which carries Route 949 over Clear Creek near Clear Creek State Park in Heath Township was closed last year as a result of the massive flooding our region experienced in June.  The new bridge will now reinstate a safe and dependable route into Clear Creek State Park.

Ensuring that area residents have access to safe and reliable transportation infrastructure is a crucial role of government, and I’m pleased that funding was able to be secured last August for this emergency project.  The rapid work at advancing this project has been due in large part to the outstanding collaboration between PennDOT, local officials, state officials and area agencies.

A posted detour that has been in place since the old bridge closure is being lifted with the new bridge opening.  While the bridge is being opened to traffic at this time, construction on the new bridge will continue over the next several months and will likely be fully completed by the end of May 2014.
