Scarnati: Applications Available for Property Tax and Rent Rebates
February 24, 2014
Applications are now available for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program, according to Senator Joe Scarnati (R-25).
The program is open to state residents age 65 or older; widows and widowers age 50 or older; and 100 percent disabled people 18 or older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters, with half of Social Security income excluded.
The maximum standard rebate is $650, but supplemental rebates for qualifying homeowners can boost rebates to $975.
“The Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program allows older Pennsylvanians and others living on tight budgets to breathe a little easier,” Scarnati stated. “I encourage individuals needing assistance to apply as soon as possible.”
Application forms are available at no cost from Department of Revenue district offices, local Area Agencies on Aging, senior centers and Senator Scarnati’s district offices. Applications are also available online or by calling toll-free (888) 222-9190. The deadline for filing an application is July 1, 2014.
“It is important for seniors to know they do not have to pay to submit the application or for help completing the form,” Scarnati said. “Local Area Agencies on Aging and other groups serving seniors are available to prepare these forms at no cost. In addition, my district offices are available to help anyone needing assistance in applying for this important program.”
