Scarnati Urges Area Senior Centers to Apply for State Grants

February 7, 2014

Area Senior Community Centers can now apply for state grants of up to $150,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging to improve their programs, services and facilities, according to Senator Joe Scarnati (R-25).

Scarnati said the Senior Community Center Grant Program will provide a total of $2.15 million for senior centers statewide to modernize their facilities and expand current programs.  The program is also a way to encourage the use of innovative approaches to providing new services that will facilitate greater participation among senior citizens, including younger seniors.

“Our local Senior Centers provide a critical service to our communities by offering a wide variety of programs and services to senior citizens and their families,” Scarnati said. “These grants will enable centers to expand their mission to help meet the needs of older Pennsylvanians.”

Scarnati explained that applications for the grants are due by March 31, 2014.  Copies of the application and instructions for submission can be found at www.aging.state.pa.us or by contacting one of Senator Scarnati’s district offices.
