Farm Food Donations: The Greenhouse Squash Hunger!
December 3, 2013
A Message From The Greenhouse:
The Greenhouse is at it again! We are currently planning an event for MLK Day of Service. Our Second Annual Squash Hunger! event will start with gleaning and/or food pick ups on Saturday January 18, 2014. We will then gather at the Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church on January 19 - 20 to turn the food donations into a healthy and delicious soup to donate to the community.
I am writing to find out if you have an interest in partnering with us on this event.
Last year we collected squash, onions, herbs, and carrots from Spiral Path, Joshua Farm and Village Acres Farm. With that bounty (and a lot of volunteers) we made delicious soup that we donated to the St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen in Harrisburg. Here is a link to an article about last year's event.
We plan to do something similar this year and would love to put some of your overflow vegetables to use if that is a possibility. Thanks for your consideration!
I can be reached via this email address or by calling 828-230-0451. Please feel free to distribute this request widely. If you have any suggestions about other growers that might be interested in participating with this or future Greenhouse projects please extend an introduction or share this invitation. We appreciate the opportunity to expand our reach as an organization and we are grateful for your time and energy!
I hope that you and your families enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving and I look forward to hearing from you.
The Greenhouse is a community organization dedicated to saving and sharing healthy food. We do this by recovering food that would have otherwise been wasted, preserving it in healthy and creative ways and then distributing it to the community.
