Bands to Preview London and Paris Performances
MANSFIELD, PA— The Mansfield University Bands, who will travel to London and Paris in August, will give a “Tour Kick-Off Performance” at the Pavilion above Butler Music Center on Sunday, July 29 at 4:15 p.m.
One hundred forty MU students will offer a marching unit, concert band, brass band, jazz combo and a Dixie-Land group during their tour August 2-9. All the groups will play a sampling of the music during the July 29 concert.
The concert is free and open to the public. This is an outdoor venue and those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for their own comfort.
On their trip, the MU Bands will perform at a number of events and venues, including Olympic Park in London, the Mayor of London’s Olympic Celebration in Victoria Park, a memorial performance and wreath laying ceremony at Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial and a performance at Parc Montsouris 14th District in Paris.
The MU travel group will also have several sightseeing and educational opportunities and the chance to attend an Olympic event.
“This is a once in a life-time opportunity for our students,” Adam Brennan, director of Bands, said. “Students are making the trip after personally paying a little more than half of the trip cost, with the rest of the money brought in through fund-raising efforts. For most of them this will be their first opportunity to travel abroad. To do so during the Olympics makes this a particularly exciting and educational opportunity.”
