MANSFIELD, PA— Mansfield University students Emily Rose Cole and Christine Rinnert earned honors at the Sigma Tau Delta Annual Conference held in New Orleans, LA this spring. Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society.
Both Cole and Rinnert presented papers during the conference.
Cole, a senior English and French major from Quakertown, PA was selected as a runner-up for the Sigma Tau Delta Senior Scholarship, which included a $1,200 scholarship.
Rinnert, a junior English major from Hammondsport, NY earned one of 10 honorable mentions in the “Reawaken" essay competition. "Reawaken" was the conference theme this year.
“What makes this accomplishment so extraordinary is scale of the competition,” Tom Murphy, chair of the MU English and Modern Languages Department, said. “The organization has more than 800 active chapters in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and the Caribbean, with more than 1,000 Faculty Sponsors, and approximately 9,000 members inducted annually. For two of our students to do so well in competition in an organization of that magnitude is a huge feat and we are quite proud of them.”
