Preperations Continue for Women's Chorus Performance at Carnegie Hall
MANSFIELD, PA—How do you get to Carnegie Hall? The typical answer is “practice, practice, practice!”
But the women of the Concert Choir at Mansfield University found out that you have to first practice, then go to Wales and win an international competition. 32 singers from the MU Concert Choir will perform as the Nuns Chorus in the prestigious concert hall on Tuesday, April 24 in a concert version of The Sound of Music directed by Rob Fisher.
Fisher selected the group of singers after judging and ranking them number one in the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales, last July. Then he wrote to Peggy Dettwiler in August and invited the choir to join the entourage of Broadway and metropolitan opera stars, including Brooke Shields and Stephanie Blythe, next month, all expenses paid.
A limited number of tickets are available for purchase on-line from the Carnegie Hall Box Office for the evening performance at 8 p.m. on April 24.
People can also attend the dress rehearsal fat 1 p.m. on that day free of charge but must fill out a registration form in advance.
Denise Berg, director of Alumni Relations, has arranged for a bus to make the trip to New York City. The cost is $75 per person.
For more information, to registration and to sign up for the bus, go to alumni.mansfield.edu and click under Upcoming Events on the link, “MU on the Road: Carnegie Hall.”
