Marino Nominates 21 High School Seniors to Service Academies
TUNKHANNOCK -- U.S. Rep. Tom Marino, PA-10, has announced the nomination of 21 men and women to four U.S. service academies for the coming academic year.
The nominees were chosen following a thorough review by Marino’s 10th District Service Academy Nomination Board composed of veterans, academy graduates, business owners, educators and other community leaders.
The next step in the process is acceptance into a military academy, a decision that is made by each academy.
Marino praised the volunteer panelists for their work.
“These folks put a lot of time, thought and effort into this process,” Marino said. “They took this responsibility seriously and gave each application the attention it deserved. The determination was completely up to them and I thank them for this community service.”
Lt. Cmdr. Susan Allen, U.S. Navy retired, of Dallas, who chaired the panel, said she was impressed by the students and their interest in the service academies.
“It was an honor to serve on the panel and to meet these young men and women who have shown such a strong interest in the service academies and in service to our country,” Allen said. “The applicants were outstanding. I was humbled by their qualifications and achievements.”
Marino’s staff is in the process of organizing informational sessions for high school juniors who would like to learn more about the application process. A Service Academy Day will be held May 19 at Williamsport Area High School, Williamsport, in conjunction with the office of Rep. Glenn Thompson, PA-5. The date and site for a Service Academy Day hosted by Marino and Rep. Lou Barletta, PA-11, will be announced.
