Young Men's Choral Festival to be held October 28
MANSFIELD, PA—The Young Men’s Choral Festival (YMCF), hosted by the Mansfield University student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), will be held on Friday, October 28.
The YMCF is an annual festival showcasing the male voice and will feature a choir of over 100 young men from area school districts, the Mansfield University Men’s Choir, and special guests, the University of Rochester Midnight Ramblers.
The festival will feature two concerts in Steadman Theatre. Both are free and open to the public.
The YMCF concert will at 4 p.m. It will present the voices of the Young Men’s Choir, under the direction of Lon Beery, and the Mansfield University Men’s Choir, under the direction of Mansfield’s Director of Choral Activities Peggy Dettwiler.
The program features great choral standards for men's voices, humorous selections, and a finale for combined choirs by Gwyneth Walker with brass and percussion. The composer will be in the audience.
At 7 p.m., the University of Rochester Midnight Ramblers, a men's a cappella group, will perform. The Midnight Ramblers sing music that includes a variety of styles, ranging from modern pop/rock to oldies and from barbershop to heavy metal.
The group placed third at the 2005 International Championship of Collegiate Acappella and has performed all over the U.S., as well as internationally.
The YMCF is supported in part by student activity fees.
