Council of Trustees Honors Concert Choir

September 28, 2011

MANSFIELD, PA—The Mansfield University Council of Trustees honored the MU Concert Choir as part of regular bi-monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 27.
Trustees Lewis Lee and Howard Smith visited the Choir’s practice in Steadman Theatre to present citations to each member of the choir that competed in the 2011 International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales last July.
Under the direction of Peggy Dettwiler, the Women’s Choir took first place, the full Concert Choir captured second place in both the mixed choir and youth choir categories of the competition and Derrek Stark placed third among all soloists in the 21 and over category. The competition featured ensembles and performers from all over the world.
“You make all of us so proud for all you do in presenting our university,” Lee said. “And a special thank you to Dr. Dettwiler.”
Smith read the citation, which in part says, “The Choir was an outstanding ambassador for Mansfield University and instilled a sense of pride throughout the university community and beyond.”
He added, “I think you need to hear that and drink that in. That’s the important part.”
Lee and Smith, along with their wives, accompanied the Choir on their tour, which included performances and sightseeing in Dublin, Kilkenny, and Killarney, Ireland in addition to the International Musical Eisteddfod.
