Council of Trustees Re-Elect Officers, Welcome New Member

MANSFIELD, PA— The Mansfield University of Pennsylvania Council of Trustees held its election of officers at its regular bi-monthly meeting on July 28.
Ralph Meyer was re-elected chair, Robert Strohecker, vice-chair, and Richard Cashman, secretary. Each will serve a two-year term.
Meyer is the president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) emeritus of Guthrie Healthcare System, having served as president and CEO from 1982 to 1998. He has served on the Council of Trustees since 1997.
Strohecker, a 1991 MU graduate and a Trustee since 1997, is the owner of Strohecker Vision Care, a group optometric practice with locations in Mansfield and Elkland.
Cashman, a 1975 Mansfield graduate, is district justice in Columbia County District Court, based in Berwick, PA. He has been a member of the Council of Trustees since 2003.
Steve Crawford was sworn in as the newest member of the Council. Appointed in June, Crawford is from Camp Hill and is a 1981 Mansfield graduate. He is Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell’s chief of staff.
In other actions, the Council of Trustees voted to place the following academic programs into moratorium; Masters of Education in Art, B.A./B.S.E. in French, B.A./B.S.E. in German, A.S. in Geography: Mapping Technology and B.S. in Geography: Regional Planning Concentration.
These programs were identified for low enrollment over the past five years, among other criteria.
Students enrolled in these programs will be provided the opportunity to complete their degree studies but no new students will be admitted to the programs. Once all currently enrolled students complete their studies, the programs will be discontinued.
