If Mahoning Valley was looking for a way to get out of town early Saturday night, Mother Nature proved to be a gracious provider of a good reason.

With lightning flashing all around the area surrounding Bowman Field, the Scrappers and Williamsport went at it until the Crosscutters built up a 7-1 lead after four-and-a-half innings. That is when Mother Nature opened up the flood gates with a deluge of precipitation, and as they say, the rest is history.

Although the game wasn’t played in its entirety, that didn’t really bother Cutter manager Chris Truby on getaway night at the ball park.

“He (Cutter pitcher Craig Fritsch) was working so slow and taking his sweet time,” said Truby. “We were like, are you serious? Do you want to win? Then in the fifth inning he came out and was fast.”
