News gathering and news publishing have changed
News gathering and news publishing have changed.
Here's an example. I was watching TV the other night, while surfing the Internet at the same time. I had Facebook.com open and read about a gas leak on a local college campus. I turned on a police scanner to listen in. Everything was repaired without trouble and all was back to normal in an hour or so.
I wouldn't read the print story until many hours later. I read the radio station news the next day online.
For me, this was a first... news was delivered to me nearly instantly from a trusted online source (the college Facebook account). The posting beat traditional news outlets by 12+ hours.
Another example is a regional TV station that allows people to sign up for email alerts when a school closes for bad weather. It's very handy. Again, a trusted source, with information distribution almost instantly due to the use of technology tethering the source of the news to the people who want the news.
My hope for this web site is that sources of news: government, schools, colleges, businesses, non-profit groups will allow us to connect their news to the people who want it using technology.
It won't happen quickly. But I believe it can happen.
If you are with a news source, please contact me to find out how we can help you connect your information to those who want it.
