Lycoming County earns Jail Overcrowding Best Practices Award

Lycoming County recently earned recognition as the recipient of the Jail Overcrowding Best Practices Award by the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP) for their respective jail and leadership efforts for implementing best practices that resulted in reducing county jail populations and overcrowding issues. This is the fourth year that CCAP has presented the awards. more»

Archers Second in Nation; Six Wildcats All-Americans

For the third straight year, the Penn College archery team is No. 2 in the nation. During competition over the weekend (May 18-20) at the U.S. Intercollegiate Archery Championships in Harrisonburg, Va., the Wildcats of first-year coach Brian Parker had two individual champions and four team champions. Lycourier staff bids farewell to Jan

This semester Lycoming College says farewell to Lycourier’s adviser, Janice L. Ogurcak. Beginning in 2000, Ogurcak has been working for Lycoming’s newspaper.

“When I first started here,” Ogurcak said, “the newspaper was in a tabloid format, originally half the size of a regular newspaper.”

Next semester the dining hall will be different once again. This time the changes are mainly concentrated in the meal plans. Instead of the standard three plans, there will be four.

“Plan A: Carte Blanche” is the usual unlimited meal plan that freshman are required to purchase.

Students were invited to attend the sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, Daniel Miller, dean of student affairs, said.

Volunteers from the Muncy Area Fire Company knocked down flames that consumed a garage located at 117 East Water Street, Muncy on Thursday, April 19. (Photo and video by Rod Knier)

Flames devoured a garage in Muncy Borough and partially seared a wall to an adjacent building late Thursday afternoon. The garage was owned by Dawn and Lee Myers, of 117 East Water Street, and the cause of the fire was being investigated by authorities.

Lycoming College was the recent recipient of a grant from the Alcoa Foundation, which provided recycling bins to all the residential students.  Lycoming was one of 33 schools of higher education to receive a grant of this kind.

Alpha Xi Delta initiates new sisters; Announces Founders’ Day event: Sets events for Autism Awareness

On April 17 Alpha Xi Delta’s Iota Mu chapter will celebrate its seventh anniversary.

The sisters will observe the date with a special ceremony, a game night and ice cream.

The event will be held in Alpha Xi Delta’s lounge.

The women’s fraternity was added to the four other sororities at Lycoming College.
