With the unofficial kickoff of summer, Lycoming County District Attorney Eric R. Linhardt has again this year allocated drug forfeiture money to fund Williamsport Police Officers to work community policing details in our City's parks. The summer park detail, initiated in 2009 by District Attorney Linhardt in cooperation with the Williamsport Bureau of Police, is in its 5th year. Park details began at the beginning of this month and will continue throughout the summer. District Attorney Linhardt allocates approximately $15,000 each year to fund this effort.
"Community policing has proven effective not only as a means of curbing crime in neighborhoods, but also contributes to a feeling of safety, enhances community partnerships, and keeps officers in touch with what' s going in the community", Linhardt said. "It is important for people to know this summer that our city's parks remain a. safe and enjoyable place for families and children to play. I am happy to use my office's resources to fund this positive police presence."
