Why Do Ghosts Wear Clothes?
Why do ghosts wear clothes?
Pants or a dress?
And not float around
in their nakedness?
With no clothes we are born
and no clothes we go
But spooks are dressed up in the afterlife
ready for the show.
Ghost of a lumberman with ghost of an axe?
Ghost of an actor in costume ready to act?
Ghost of a soldier with the ghost of a gun?
Handsome in his uniform his battle not yet won.
Now dark is the hallway, the storm flashes and blows
As my brother and I creep on our tippy toes
Barely able to breathe for the fright we might get
In this old haunted house that our friends bet a bet
That on Halloween night when twelve chimes on the clock
We would not dare enter this house on our block.
Wait! What’s that! It forms in the mist.
The shape of a person, oh brother this is it!
Our feet want to turn and run for the door.
But our eyes say otherwise and want to see more.
Though scared beyond measure now we can’t help but grin
Then come the chuckles as it all settles in
Then we fall on the floor with laughter for the sight that we see
The ghost has no clothes on. Oh man, our pants we might pee.
Has he no ghost money? Is he really ghost poor?
That he can’t buy ghost clothing at a ghost clothing store?
Looks like a mystery us brothers need to find out
And visit more haunted houses as we travel about
But now unable to haunt the spooks embarrassed to stay
And we see his hiney as he’s floating away
