Walking Tour, Community Mapping Exercise Set
A walking tour and community mapping exercise, sponsored by the Merrill W. Linn Land & Waterways Conservancy and led by environmental consultant Brian Auman and representatives of Susquehanna Greenway Partnership, is scheduled for Saturday, April 14 starting at 10 am. The event, which begins at the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail trailhead near North 15th Street in Lewisburg, will focus on local greenways, highlighting improved pedestrian and bicycle accommodations in the area.
Participants will explore connections to neighborhoods, the safe crossing of Route 15, the Bull Run Greenway, and connections to Bucknell, downtown, and the Susquehanna riverfront. The tour will end at the Union-Snyder Agency on Aging (116 N. 2nd St.), with refreshments, a presentation on the Susquehanna Greenway, and a mapping exercise to help plan future walking and biking trails and routes.
“With the opening of the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail and increased efforts by the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership in our area, the greenways concept is in the news,” says Tom Gibson, chair of the Linn Conservancy’s Caring for Communities program, a month long series of free environmental events. “Greenways are corridors that create networks of open space protecting natural and scenic resources, benefitting recreational opportunities, and enhancing the natural beauty and quality of life in communities,” Mr. Gibson says.
