On Sunday, April 10, the Uptown Music Collective will be holding their Annual Spring Recital. The spring recital, the second of the three recitals the school holds yearly, will feature the school’s students performing a variety of songs that they have learned throughout the semester.

Due to the large number of students participating, the recital will be split in two parts. Part one will run from 1-3 p.m. and part two will run from 4-7 p.m. The recital will take place next to the Uptown Music Collective at Trinity Episcopal Church in the gym on the second floor. Both parts of the recital are free and open to the public.

Established in April of 2000, the Uptown Music Collective (a 501c 3 non profit school of music) has developed a reputation as the premier source of music education in the area, with an enrollment of over 130 students. Offering private lessons at all levels on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and vocals, as well as classes and workshops in music theory, songwriting, and styles such as the Blues, Jazz, Classical and Rock.

The primary age range of the Collective is 10 – 18 yrs old, but is open to all ages and levels. Along with private lessons, the UMC offers a myriad of programs including its flagship Performance Program. This program educates students about the ins and outs of major and minor performances, including direction, production, preparation and technical aspects of the performances. The program brings outstanding student run performances to the area, including most recently, The Unforgettable Fire: A Tribute to U2 and Irish Rock.

The Uptown Music Collective hold’s three student recitals in the calendar year, one per semester, in the fall, spring, and summer (as part of the schools Summer Music Festival in Brandon Park). The recitals are a way to hold the students accountable for their own progress in their private lessons. The recital is the essential first step that beginner Collective students take on their path the larger scale shows that the school produces as part of its Performance Program.

"If you are interested in seeing how Uptown Music Collective students develop over time from beginners to the highly skilled performers you see in the schools major performances, our student recitals are a great opportunity," says Dave Brumbaugh, UMC Executive Director.
