Theresa Crowley Spitler will be Julie’s Coffee guest artist for the months of January and February.  Her show “Purely Pastels” will run through the end of February.

Spitler resides in Montoursville, PA.  She graduated from Lock Haven State with a bachelor's degree in education and was a teacher in Williamsport School District.  She primarily works in pastel to create her paintings, but also uses oil, charcoal, and graphite to explore light and shadow, form and color.

She finds inspiration in the everyday objects that become the subjects of her still life paintings. Her landscapes and seascapes are influenced by her travels and she often paints on location.

“Pastel is the medium I use most often.  There are infinite ways to make strokes and it’s very satisfying to create the illusion of form and substance out of dust,” she said.

Spitler has won awards in juried exhibitions.  She is a member of various art organizations including the Bald Eagle Art League and the Central PA Pastel Society.  She teaches pastel workshops at the Lycoming Art Students League and demonstrates pastel techniques for art organizations and schools throughout the area.  Her work can be seen at the Open Door Gallery in Lewisburg, The Artisan’s Shoppe in Wellsboro, The Eagles Mere Art Gallery, Katie’s Country Store in Muncy Valley and The Valley Gallery in Jersey Shore.
