Sojourners Stop in Muncy
MUNCY-An organized group of 75 kayak and canoe enthusiasts docked briefly today, enjoying a respite luncheon and tour from a seven day trip, thanks to members of the Muncy Historical Society.
Beginning on Sunday, June 13 in Renovo, and concluding at Shikellamy State Park in Northumberland, sojourners experience life on the river away from the demands of their own daily lives, according to www.susquehannagreenway.org.
The scheduled stop was part of a 97-mile itinerary and educational sojourn of the Susquehanna River partially funded through a Pennsylvania Organization for Watershed Resotoration (POWR) grant and made possible by the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership, who partnered with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and Trout Unlimited to host this year’s West Branch Susquehanna River Sojourn.
After lunch, sojourners were treated to a tour of the Muncy Heritage Park and the site of the Last Raft before pushing off and embarking for their next campsite at Milton State Park.
Along the trip, the boaters will be participating in various service projects, educational presentations, entertainment and games to help achieve a better understanding and stronger connection with the river.
In its 20th year, the sojourn is intended to raise awareness about the natural and cultural resources of the river, promote public access to these resources and encourage watershed stewardship, all while having a great time with new and old friends.

Sojourners stop by Muncy Heritage Park
Thanks Cindy, for stepping outside and covering this story. I really like the short videos. It's wonderful to see people utilizing the Muncy Heritage Park and Nature Trail. The always-gracious Muncy Historical Society hosted a respite for the paddlers, serving them beverages and hot dogs off the grill. I spent several years at the park overseeing a public archaeology dig, teaching thousands of people about historic preservation. Oh yeah, and eating those awesome hot dogs. Muncy Heritage Park continues to evolve and next on their agenda is the construction of the pavilion and the parking lot. What a beautiful destination.
