School Musicals This Week
MUNCY -- March is Music in Our Schools month, and what better way to support two area schools’ offerings of musical plays this weekend.
Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 4-6, at both Muncy Jr. Sr. High School, and Hughesville High School, where audiences can expect student performances of “I Am a Star” and “Anything Goes,” respectively.
Tickets for the Muncy musical are $4 for students and adult tickets, $6; at Hughesville, admission is a flat rate of $5.
While “Anything Goes” is a relatively well-known musical in which madcap antics take place aboard an ocean liner sailing from New York to London, “I Am a Star” pairs the drama of Shakespeare with the craziness of teen students.
It focuses on Jane, a nerdy-looking new student, who is all but ignored by the in-crowd, who are too involved with trying to get parts as extras for the movie that's going to be filmed there. Little do they know Jane is really the pampered, glamorous teen soap opera star, Tiffany, who’s undercover to prove she really can act and hopefully earn the lead in the movie.
The musical is directed by Bob Taylor, with assistance from Lori Lewis.
