October 11, 2011 –When the Jersey Shore Area High School Bulldogs football team took on the Montoursville Area High School Warriors Friday, September 23, they traded in their black and orange school colors and “Pinked Out” to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

The players pinked out their uniforms by wearing pink mouthpieces, socks, medical tape, receiver gloves, towels and wristbands. The bulldog mascot graphic on the center of the field was outlined in pink for the game. Fans attending the game that night were encouraged to wear pink in support of finding a cure.

The Jersey Shore Area High School Football Boosters also sold light pink game day T-shirts for two weeks prior to game day and at the gate the night of the game. The shirts featured clashing shattered helmets with the names of both teams, Jersey Shore and Montoursville, on the front.

According to Ann-Marie Dincher, a board member of the Jersey Shore Football Boosters, “We encouraged our players at the start of the season to be involved in a community project. We felt it was important for the players to learn to give back; that is when we decided on hosting a Pink Out game.”

The Jersey Shore Football Boosters raised $1,865.85 through the pink out events and decided to donate the money to Susquehanna Health’s Kathryn Candor Lundy Breast Health Center.

“As a board we felt so many people have been affected by cancer in one way or another and we wanted to keep the money in the local area, which is why we chose to donate the proceeds to the Kathryn Candor Lundy Breast Health Center,” added Dincher.

“Although Jersey Shore was defeated by Montoursville by a score of 16 to 10, everyone was a winner that night,” says Susan Keeler, RN, Manager of the Kathryn Candor Lundy Breast Health Center. “We are very grateful for the donation.”
