Rails-to-Trails Lures Cyclist, Kayaker
JERSEY SHORE -- Greg Hudson drove his pickup truck the roughly 175 miles from his home in Frederick, Md., to the Whitetail Parking Access of the Pine Creek Rail Trail just above Jersey Shore on Saturday morning, Sept. 11.
In the back of his vehicle he was carrying his bicycle and his kayak (with its wheeled trailer). He proceeded to bicycle up the trail, pulling his kayak behind him, to Camp Kline, just below Ramsey Village. There, behind Bonnell Flat Campground, where there is access to Pine Creek, Greg made the "switch," attaching both his bicycle and the kayak carrier to his kayak, and then paddling back down the creek to the Torbert Canoe Access adjacent to Whitetail.
Hudson had discovered Pine Creek and its rail trail on the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy website, www.railstotrails.org. Here for this "test run," Hudson plans to return to enjoy other sections of the trail and creek in the future.
