To lessen the number of DUI-crashes in northcentral Pennsylvania, distribution of equipment--donated courtesy of a foundation which focuses on the dangers of drinking and driving--occurred on Wednesday, Nov. 23.

Ken Iwaniec, father of Trooper Kenton Iwaniec, was on hand at Montoursville State Police headquarters for a  presentation of pre-breath testers which were donated to Troop F.

The equipment was purchased by donations raised by the Trooper Kenton Iwaniec Memorial Foundation. Trooper Iwaniec was killed in a vehicle crash on March 27, 2008 in Chester County while he was returning home from work. The driver of the vehicle which struck Trooper Iwaniec had a blood alcohol content of .034 percent and was also under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the crash.

Captain Donald Peters was appreciative of the donation, citing the Thanksgiving holiday as the busiest day of travel in the United States.

"Effective this afternoon, these units will be put into use," Capt. Peters said.
