Newberry’s community service organizations are joining together to celebrate the unveiling of the beautiful monument, The Light of Liberty, that took place in 1922.
The memorial came into being after 2 years of planning and dedicated hard work by citizens of Newberry, Woodward and Old LycomingTownships in honor of their sons and daughters who served in the First World War.
The organizers are diligently searching for descendents of the men and women listed on the memorial or who played a role in making the monument a reality.
The names on the monument are listed in the July issue of insideNewberry on page 2. The issue can be seen on the websitewww.insidenewberry.com or call 570-601-0298 to pick up a copy of the list or to help with the event.
Elements of the celebration activities are in the planning stage. We can report that there will be birthday cake and refreshments. A full schedule of the afternoon’s festivities will be released early in September.
