The new Residence Inn by Marriot, 150 W. Church St., is now open in Williamsport.

Lycoming County Commissioner Jeff Wheeland, who attended the ribbon-cutting event, said, “The hotel is another great investment in Lycoming County.” He added that the upscale hotel “offers our visitors first class accommodations.”

The facility is an important addition to Williamsport, said Vince Matteo, president and chief executive officer of the Williamsport Chamber of Commerce, who also attended.

“This new business in downtown Williamsport is an example of the growth the city and county have been experiencing. We are proud to be a part of it,” Matteo said.

Other Williamsport officials and business representatives at the ribbon cutting were Holly Kremser, Rob McCarthy, Williamsport Mayor Gabriel Campana and Jennifer Locey.

The hotel mainly caters to guests who wish to stay for an extended period of time. Jennifer Locey, vice president of operations for Chartwell Hotels, described the target guest of the hotel.

“We’re looking for guests who want to stay more than four nights. However, we do accept guests staying any number of nights,” she said.

The hotel contains 97 units and the average rate per night is $159. Each of the units are “50 percent larger than most hotel rooms,” Locey added.
