Muncy Sees Gold With Strickland, Hembury as State Champs
It’s been a few years—55 to be exact—since Muncy brought home a champion
wrestler when 112-pound Larry Lauchle captured gold. But both Zach
Strickland and Ryan Hembury became their school's first state wrestling
champions since 1956, in the PIAA Class AA finals at Hershey's Giant
Center.
The Saturday bouts featured Strickland defeating South
Fayette's Nick Carr, 4-3, at 152 pounds, while 189-pound Hembury
defeated Commodore Perry's Stephen Ceremunga, 8-4. Ryan’s brother, Troy,
at 145-pounds, placed fifth on Saturday, with a rematch against
Schuylkill Valley's Giuliano Caloiero.
The wins prompted a spontaneous parade in Muncy when the trio returned back home shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening. (photos accompanying news article provided by Llew Wenzel; video provided by Dylan Peace)
