Goth Reviews: John Oliver and the Distinguished
John Oliver and the Distinguished IT AIN’T OVER (self-released) www.jodband.com
Goth Woman: Based in Williamsport, JOD are hot, on stage and in the studio. Everything about this recording is rock solid, from production to musicianship to song craft.
Spike: Absolutely. Oliver knows how to write hooks. He has a strong masculine voice that’s good on the ears. They’re also not stuck in one groove or dynamic. There is nothing lacking on this recording.
Goth Woman: Their songs work live and on recording. I also like the varied tempos and arrangements. Sometimes he recalls classic rock, maybe a smidge of Southern Rock. Other times he’s rooted in modern alternative power pop with an edge.
Spike: …and the title cut was the 2009 Song of the Year on the Billtown Bus Stop Radio Hour. Deservedly so.
