HOLLIS BROWN (Hollis Brown/Vibe Theory Records)

Spike: This Brooklyn-based band has gigged in Williamsport at least twice, and they left quite a buzz with their scruffy, melodic hard-edged pop. They’ve been working hard and wear their influences like cat hair on a suit.

Goth Woman:
Musically they cross a bridge between Crazy Horse and Green Day, with REVOLVER-era Beatles and British rock on the rail. “Carolina Carolina” has a southern country-rock lilt, like Black Crowes on fine wine instead of whiskey.

Spike:
The vocals are great. Rich, melodic, but powerful. The musicianship and production is tight and top-notch. So many of their songs are anthemic.

Goth Woman:
You mean songs like “Show Love” and “Bring it Down”?

Spike:
Exactly. You start singing along and bouncing up and down.

Goth Woman:
Hollis Brown is a band to watch out for.
