On Wednesday, December 19, 2012, employees of Evangelical Community Hospital provided enough toys for over 75 children for Christmas through donations to the Donald Heiter Community Center, Lewisburg.

Four years ago, the Imaging Services Department of Evangelical chose to sponsor a family who had gone through some rough times with illness through working with the Heiter Center and Union County Children and Youth Services. The response was overwhelming and each year since, the employees’ interest in helping others through this effort has grown.

This year, Imaging Services, Cardiovascular Services, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Central Registration, Administration and some physicians joined together and provided between one to 10 gifts for each of the 75 children sponsored.

Executive Director of the Heiter Center, Andrea Tufo, accepted the large bags of toys carefully separated for each sponsored child saying that the gifts go to children who don't qualify for some of the standard programs available but still find themselves in need.

The Center asks only that the gifts come unwrapped. They then set up a gift wrapping station at the Donald Heiter Community Center where the parents of the children can see what they have received, wrap the gifts themselves and present the toys to their children on Christmas day.
