David Stone as the" Man in Black"

Renowned musician David Stone will perform a benefit concert for Lycoming County United Way at the Community Arts Center, on Saturday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m.

"David Stone: The Johnny Cash Experience" is a Broadway-quality show, popular with audiences young and old alike. The show has earned a reputation for spawning new fans of "The Man in Black" who never had a chance to see or hear the legendary figure in American Country Music.

“Our mission is simple: it is an accurate, note-for-note, authentic representation of The Johnny Cash Show, complete with authentic instruments and costume changes,” said Stone. “The music and the legend are conveyed with dignity.”

Those who see "David Stone: The Johnny Cash Experience" will know what it must have been like to see Johnny Cash in concert.  His voice, mannerisms, and the sound of his band are wholly true to legend.

“We are thrilled that David and his band are coming back to Williamsport to support Lycoming County United Way,” said Scott N. Lowery, LCUW’s executive director. “David first performed here in 2008 and was warmly received. Ticket sales have already surpassed his previous show and we are grateful David and his band are returning to help us raise needed funds. Those who have seen him can attest to the tremendous show he puts on.”

"David Stone: The Johnny Cash Experience" will perform two fifty-minute acts, covering Early Johnny Cash, Johnny Cash and June Carter, and the Folsom Prison Concert Era up to the year 1978. Mia Johnson will guest star as June Carter.

Stone is a Philadelphia-born singer/songwriter who has been singing the songs of Johnny Cash nearly all of his life. Inspired by the Man in Black’s television show as a young boy, Stone learned to play guitar and sing in Cash’s unique style. Since starting the show he has quickly received an enthusiastic response from fans.

“I am not a look-alike or an impersonator, my rendition of Johnny Cash observes a strict authenticity and dignity in conveying the rich, thought provoking music that made Johnny Cash an icon of American Country Music,” said Stone.

According to LCUW, the special fundraising concert is made possible with the help of these sponsors: WILQ 105.1fm, OldieZ 93, Williamsport Sun-Gazette, WNEP-16, and Hampton Inn.

“We are proud to partner with our local United Way on this unique event,” said Dan Farr, Backyard Broadcasting’s general manager. “We know our WILQ and OldieZ 93 listeners are happy to have such a high-quality performance here in town and with proceeds benefiting a trusted charity that serves our neighbors. We didn’t hesitate to get involved.”

“As the community’s daily newspaper, the Sun-Gazette was also eager to collaborate on this effort with United Way,” added Bernard Oravec, publisher of the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. “The concert will be a fun night out and the funds raised will help many people improve their lives and/or get through a crisis.”

Lycoming County United Way mobilizes resources to improve lives by funding 44 human service programs in Lycoming County, with 97 percent of the funds raised by United Way stay in Lycoming County.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit Lycoming County United Way. Admission is $22/$12 per person; call 1.800.432.9382 or go to www.caclive.com for tickets.
